After a long day driving through stifling heat, we pulled the caravan up for the night into a simple roadside overnighter, just off the Matilda Hwy somewhere between Blackall and nowhere.
A drought stricken dustbowl devoid of life, other than a few Mulgas clinging to life.
As the sun sank slowly in the west I set my cameras up towards the horizon focused on the character of a dead solitary tree, in the centre of this unlikely oasis.

The rich deep red earth.
The orange glow of the landscape as the sun slowly sinks over the horizon.
In particular the small remote townships of Blackall and the regional centres of Longreach and Barcaldine.
Somewhere in that golden triangle at a random road stop we pulled over and set up camp for the night.
