MONA is situated in picturesque surrounds

Well known for their gallery of plaster cast vaginas, the curators of Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), are not ones to shy away from controversy.

An array of exhibits spanning the abstract to the ancient, to the plain absurd.

Art meets Science / Science meets Art

Nothing short of provoking, the stomach churning synthetic human gastronomical System / Art installation, something known as 'The Cloaca Professional', the brainchild of Belgian conceptual artist Wim Delvoye, which was unveiled at MONA's Berriedale location, north of Hobart, in 2010.

Basically what it does is mimic the human digestive system.

They feed it each morning and everyday at 2 it does a poo.

Complete with olfactory disturbance, in much the same way that we all do, it's fed and maintained at body temperature, where food travels through a mechanical and chemical assembly line, involving organs, enzymes necessary for digestion, farting and smelly solid end products (poo).
