VIEW OF MELBOURNE CITY SKYLINE FROM THE BOLTE BRIDGE
DIMENSIONAL SHIFT OF A CITYSCAPE
Hypnotic, and mesmerizing, it’s amazing how the GoPro Fusion 360 can transform a simple scene, such as walking through Melbourne’s Federation Square, transcending it into new dimensions.
A surreal alien landscape takes shape as your brain attempts to make sense of the scene unfolding in front of your incredulous eyes.
FEDERATION SQUARE, MELBOURNE CITY CENTRE
There is so much to look at in the city. So much life bustling by, so much so that most of it goes unnoticed.
A sensory overload narrows one’s field of view.
It expands your imagination, stretches your brain like a rubber band.
A first person, Gonzo, cockpit view.
Floating through space, dream like you hurtle like you’re on a rollercoaster. Your eyes drawn in, transfixed, darting around to maintain pace with the action on screen.
There is something about the depth perception that reaches into your consciousness through your visual cortex, hypnotically taking hold as you question the witchcraft you are witnessing.
“How is that possible?”
“Makes you think…”
“Woah, check that out!”

The 360 VR environment brings the scenes of a city to life in such a way as to transcend what is humanly perceivable or perceptible.
You see everything all at once.
Maybe that’s what connects and draws you in as you watch.
Eyes in the back of your head. But you are still viewing said reality from a 2D field of view. (If I’m not careful I’ll start raving about Simulation theory and the holographic universe)
That feeling of butterflies in your stomach as you go over a dip in the car. An adrenaline rush of sorts.
The editing capabilities / possibilities make near every scene remappable from multiple perspectives, offering a different side to the story.
It grabs and twists at something deep.
One’s field of vision is magnified.
The expanse can be accessed.
You catch something out of the corner of your eye and suddenly it becomes the focal point.
The resources and infrastructure to grow, the experiences and access to opportunities that cities provide.
It can be a trap as much as it provides opportunity.
What are the first thoughts that come to mind when you watch these videos?
How does this make you feel?
What symbolism does your sub conscious focus on?
FEDERATION SQUARE, MELBOURNE WALK THROUGH
Is it a hamster wheel?
The never-ending treadmill, jogging on the spot, the mundane 9-5 Groundhog Day grind of the big city?
Or do you think of it is terms of what’s possible in the big city.
That people look at things differently, take a different approach. Walk their own paths.
There is so much going on. There is so much information and symbolism encoded into every corner of a city matrix.
There is something about major cities that has always given me a peculiar sense of unease.
Towering, foreboding skyscrapers, the sheer scale of these man-made mountains, make one marvel at these shrines of human capability.
If I spend too long standing in the human ant nest of a city, a mild case of agoraphobia creeps in, overwhelming the senses, like the walls are about to come down on you.
Cities are a nice place to visit, I’m just glad I don’t live there.
